21 Years- My son is now 21 years old. I was planning to write something deep and profound, about the time we spent together as he grew from a child into the young man he is today. About love, and loss, about friendship and commitment. About loyalty , about the many joys and triumphs to come, and perhaps about the pain and tragedy that we all experience over the course of a lifetime.
But, I think there will be other times, other places to have those dialogues. Today is a day of celebration. My boy is now officially a man. A good man. A funny and creative man. A caring and loving man. I hope in some small way that I have helped him along a straight and positive path in life. He makes me proud. He brings me happiness. I’m one lucky dad.
Happy Birthday, Spencer. I wish you a lifetime of contentment, success and peace.

  1. Michael, The man that Spencer has become has to be heavily influenced by the father that you are. I have been alternately intrigued, impressed and amused from the conversations and interactions we have had (Spencer & I). I am honored to be his friend, as well as yours. There is no doubt he will continue to make you proud!

  2. Buddy, I can’t believe 21 years has passed for any of us! Happy day to you, be proud of your life and accomplishments, primarily the fine upbringing of that cool kid of yours!! I have an only child, and she starts on her new violin next week as we delve into the world of Suzuki violin. I want her to want music and culture and life as much as Spencer seems to. If you have any pointers, let me know.
