GATEWAY ARTS OPEN STUDIO TOUR 2012

On Saturday, friend and local watercolorist Sally Ann Rogers invited me to my old stomping grounds in Prince Georges County, Maryland to attend the Gateway Arts District annual Open Studio Tour. Over 120 artists, representing 70 studios in 17 venues participate, turning the Route 1 corridor from Hyattsville to Mt. Rainier into a mecca of the arts. The Hyattsville area is fast becoming THE place for artists in the Nation’s Capitol, and the turn out was helped by a gorgeous, sunny spring day. We started on the north end at the old Battling Burt Lustine showroom, now converted to a beautiful gallery space for the ARTDC group, and eventually ended at the Gateway Arts Center in scenic Brentwood. Take the time and make a trip to this historic Maryland neighborhood and see an arts renaissance in the making.

  1. the Gateway arts building is in Brentwood, MD, between Hyattsville and Mount Rainier. It deserves a special shout out for coordinating so many events. This area would be far less complete without it.
