For the second time, the good folks of Princeton, Kentucky have seen fit to invite me down to their charming town to photograph the Pennington Folk Festival, an annual event featuring native son, the world renowned Travis picker, Eddie Pennington. Once again, Eddie, Penny, Alonzo and Rosebud have welcomed me into the family fold for a weekend of pickin’ and grinnin’, and you could not ask for sweeter hosts.- unless it was Stacey and Dog, and Rob and all my other wonderful friends down in Caldwell County! This is a true slice of what makes America a grand country. The music here is first rate, whether it is Eddie & his grandson Caleb strumming through “Ghost Riders in the Sky”, or the fine local musicians in the Saturday morning talent show, or everything else under the musical sun, from the “American Stream” hoodoo of Hymn for Her, or the screaming blues of the Alonzo Pennington Band, to the alt country of Cheyenne Mize and the gospel bluegrass of The Ridgerunners. If you can’t find some music here that you’ll love, you just don’t like music! Top it all off with country music star Bobby Bare and it all adds up to a weekend of big-time fun in a small town setting. So be sure & mark your calendar for the first weekend in June, 2013 for the Pennington “Sweet Sixteen” Festival. You’ll be glad you did!
