A RETURN TO THE CITIES OF THE DEAD

Whenever I’m on the road and time permits, I make it a point to spend some time for contemplation and reflection in the nearest cemetery. Nothing reflects a culture like its treatment of the departed, be it in Ireland, Tokyo or San Antonio. A city’s necropolis speaks volumes toward the way its people view death…. and life. No two graveyards are alike, even if they are, literally, just across the street and it is always endlessly fascinating to see the trends in death culture as it is among the living. In death, as in life, fads come and go but we all hope, that in the end, our existence will be remembered, if only by a passing visitor with a camera.PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
